Halton People Into Jobs (HPIJ) is a Council service offering Next Step Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) on a range of employment, learning & skills and business start-up support services available direct from HPIJ and local providers.

We are currently looking for local graduates to take part in Halton Borough Council’s Graduate Internship Programme. The Graduate Internship Programme will provide graduates with unpaid work experience in an appropriate placement with a Council Department that will help enhance their personal employment prospects. Graduates will get 1:1 information, advice and guidance and support throughout the programme with travel and lunch costs. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in your field that can help you take your first steps to your future career goals.

What can we can help individuals with?
- Appointments with qualified advice & guidance workers available in the HPIJ office and in 15 neighbourhood outreach locations across Widnes and Runcorn
- Helping to identify barriers to employment and /or learning, providing information, advice and guidance to develop an action plan to achieve work related goals
- Matching clients skills and experience to local job opportunities
- Access to waged and unwaged work experience placements to improve practical work skills offering on the job training
- Work tasters and other personal development and employability skills training courses
- Financial assistance (certain eligibility conditions apply) to ease the transition from unemployment to work or to access training related to a job offer from an employer
- Access to business start up /self employment advice and practical help with business planning, finance and marketing
- In Work Support for up to 26 weeks to help new employees with the transition into permanent or long term work
What can we can help employers with?
- Comprehensive and flexible recruitment support (large and small scale)
- Access to clients on work placement basis prior to taking on as employed
- Access to training for staff via Apprenticeships, Train to Gain or other employer demand training provision
- Promoting vacancies, identifying & matching candidates and managing applications to vacancies
- Arranging interviews and providing employer feedback to candidates on the employers behalf
- Redundancy Service - Support for clients facing redundancy - on site information, advice and guidance and practical support

HPIJ will offer advice & guidance to any Halton resident and may provide a package of tailored support to unemployed residents living in specific wards and those from priority customer groups including:
- Lone parents
- Women returning to work
- Carers
- People with a disability or in receipt of a health related benefit
- Young people aged 16-19 (Not in education, employment or training)
- People aged 50 years and over
- People from black or minority ethnic communities
- People qualified below level 2
- People that are homeless
- Ex-offenders
- Parents from low income families.
Eligibility Criteria may apply to some of HPIJ services to satisfy funding requirements.
The Halton Employment Partnership Award is a programme aimed at enhancing job prospects by combining employability skills with sector-specific training.
