School Crossing Patrols

School Crossing Patrols operate across Halton helping thousands of Children to cross the road safely on their journeys to and from school.

Stop The Drop

Halton is worryingly seeing YET another peak of incidents where young people are dropping objects off bridges onto fast moving vehicles travelling on the expressway below.

These frightening incidents feature mainly around the footbridges over the Central and Daresbury expressways in Runcorn and the nature of these incidents seem to be becoming more and more serious. Previously some of the objects thrown have included stones, bricks, golf balls, shopping trolleys, concrete slabs, computer towers and more recently a steel grid. It has only been through shear luck that no one has been killed. This kind of behaviour has the real potential to be lethal and is far more serious than a simple misdemeanour!!!

To tackle these behaviours the Stop the Drop Taskforce is targeting all the schools in the areas of these incidents to try and hit home the potential consequences. The taskforce delivers presentations and lessons looking at the potential consequences of these actions including the injuries and damage to the cars below as well as the criminal aspect – looking at the charges they could be facing if caught. The taskforce is made up of the key stakeholders affected by such behaviour such as Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Arriva, and Halton Borough Councils Road Safety Team.

Please report any incidents you see of this nature using the crimestoppers number or dial 999 if an emergency. If you want to organise talks, lessons for your school by the taskforce please get in touch.

Crucial Crew

Every year, during March the Halton Road Safety Team organise the 2 week Crucial Crew event for every Year 6 pupil, who is soon to make their transition to high schools. Crucial Crew is a mutli agency event including:

  • Road Safety
  • Park Rangers
  • Police
  • Virgin Trains
  • Fire Service
  • First Aid from PCT

Year 6 pupils throughout Halton are invited to Halton Stobart Stadium upon where they experience several 20 minute interactive workshops with many safety messages from each of the agencies. The children are presented with various dangerous or challenging situations - such as a road collision or a gas leak - and they engage in role-play exercises in how to deal with these situations. Often these workshops support schools with their Citizenship sessions back at school.
