Supported Lodgings

Supported Lodgings is a vital service for young people who are leaving care and taking the first steps into independence.

The Young people who would benefit from this support have often overcome personal difficulties and lived successfully in a fostering family.

A Supported Lodgings placement is the next step in preparing them for independence.

What does a Supported Lodgings Provider do?

The role of a registered Provider focuses on practical and emotional support. Providers will need to have a spare room and be able to offer a home-like environment, providing support with tasks such as cooking and budgeting and developing confidence in the young person living with them. As a Provider you would also be expected to:

  • Commit to a schedule of training
  • Attend professional meetings
  • Submit weekly records

How long will they stay?

The length of a placement can be changeable dependent on individual circumstances but Providers can expect that a young person will be with them for a minimum of six months and anything up to five years.

What support can I expect?

Our Providers are well supported and benefit from:

  • A comprehensive suite of training
  • An allocated Support Worker
  • Out of hours support 24/7
  • A professional fee
  • Support Groups

Can I continue to work?

Yes. As the young people you support are aged 16+ and usually in work or studying there is no expectation for you to be available 24/7. This is a supporting role.

How long will the process take?

One we receive your enquiry you can expect a call from our friendly Fostering Team within one working day. We will have a quick chat with you and arrange to visit you at home.

Your home visit will focus on information sharing it is your opportunity to learn more about the Provider role and of course we would like to learn more about you and your family.

Following your home visit, if we mutually agree that we would like to move forward then you will be invited to apply.

Once we have your application we will allocate you an Assessor and start your background checks. You can expect to receive typically 4 home visits from your Assessor. This is a thorough process looking at your home dynamics, skills and experience.

The assessment process takes around 6 week in total. At the end of your assessment a report is compiled and this is considered by Senior Managers.
Once your registration is agreed we begin to look at matching you with a Care Leaver.
