The Council votes by thirds, this means that a third of our 56 councillors are elected every year over a four-year cycle (with no elections in the fourth year). Elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May.
By-Elections
A By-Election is usually held to fill a casual vacancy, this occurs on either the death or resignation of a Councillor. An election would not be held if that Councillor was due to retire within six months.
