Cost of Living Payments guide

The government will be making £300 cost of living payments 3 times a year to those on certain means tested benefits with payments in Spring 2023, Winter 2023 and Spring 2024.

Winter Cost of Living Payment:

  • For those on certain benefits- for example, Universal Credit, Pension Credit, PIP, income-related ESA or Attendance Allowance.
  • Payments will be automatic and made between the 31st October and 19th November 2023.

Pensioner Cost of Living Payment:

If you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment, you will get an extra £150 or £300 paid with your normal payment from November 2023. The full amount you will get depends on when you were born and your circumstances. You will be sent a letter in October or November telling you how much Winter Fuel Payment you’ll get if you’re eligible.

You can get a Winter Fuel Payment for Winter 2023 to 2024 if you were born before 25 September 1957. You will receive both the Winter Fuel Payment top up and the above Cost of Living payment if you are eligible for both.
