RSPH L2 Encouraging a Healthy weight and Healthy Eating (1-day course - accredited by RSPH)
This qualification is for individuals with an interest in health who are also interested in helping others develop a healthier lifestyle by encouraging people to eat healthily and attain and maintain a healthy weight.
Learners will increase their knowledge and understanding of why individuals may not be at a healthy weight, the effect on health of this, the principles of healthy eating and how individuals can be helped and supported to achieve a healthy weight and eat healthily.
This training is for staff on the front line supporting individuals to make better decisions, who may play a role in supporting shopping/cooking and behaviour change with families and young people. RSPH L2 Understanding Health Improvement (1-day course - accredited by RSPH)
This course gives the learner an overview of preventative health improvement. It goes through some key principles around behaviour change techniques, how to have a health improvement conversation and support someone to make changes. Wider topics such as health inequalities, and lifestyle subjects including, smoking, alcohol, healthy eating, physical activity, sexual health and mental health are covered.
This course is perfect for you if you want to learn best practice methods for improving the health of the people around you. This course has the most up-to-date reviews of healthcare inequalities and policies within the UK, and is ideal for you even if you already working in a health care related role and want to top-up your knowledge of the current healthcare landscape.

Why Wait to Talk (2 hours)
This course aims to raise awareness of the complex range of factors that influence overweight and obesity.
It considers the impact of weight stigma on individuals living with overweight and obesity and will help in understanding the impact of weight stigma, bias and prejudice and explore how to create supportive, healthy weight environments.
The training session will consider the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on weight gain and how weight discrimination can activate our stress response system. Along with helping to understand the current vision and strategy within the borough in relation to supporting healthier weight.
This session will give advice on how to have positive conversations about weight – focus on person-centred, wellness and health gains, trauma-informed practices and suggest where to refer and signpost, including local and national resources and services.

CYP Brief Lifestyle Intervention for Practitioners
Two 1.5 hour modules are available – ‘Introduction to Healthy Eating’ and ‘Sleep, Screens and Physical Activity’.
The sessions are for professionals working with children and young people aged 5-17 years. The training covers motivational interviewing, goal setting, the guidelines around healthy eating and physical activity, the importance of sleep, reducing sedentary time and screen time. The training equips participants with ideas and resources to deliver key health messages effectively – either during organised sessions or informal chats with children and families.
You do not need to be working in a health role, as anyone working with children and young people can have informal conversations about lifestyle choices. After completing the course you can choose to deliver your own healthy lifestyle sessions in your own setting, incorporate the guidelines into your policies and practice, and support families and young people to make small changes to their lifestyles.
This course is free of charge to organisations working with children, young people and families in Halton. Courses can be booked for your team in your workplace or community venue, for a minimum of 8 people.
